Booking in your MOT :
We book Mots in two ways,
1) On a waiting basis and do 2 waiting MOT’s a day, and these are usally done in 1hr. The bookable times are at 10.15am and 1.45pm.
2) All other MOT’s are booked in on the understanding that the car is there all day.
Mot Computerisation
Computerisation of the MOT has been runing for just over a year.
It is a good idea allowing you to Tax your car on line and alowing the police to check vehicles legality easily.
However the system has suffered several problem days Nationally over the first period. Causing many problems for garages and has resulted in longer booking times. Also the actual MOT test in a lot of cases takes longer.
The computor system is run by seimens and every testing station has suffered finacialy from the consiquenses of this government imposed system.
Please be patient with your testing station as little or nearly no training is given on the system and even VOSA (the new name of the MOT people) on occasions are not able to answer questions we ask them regarding the system. The system also is regulaly updated with no documentation on alterations made. They work on the principal of we alter it and you work out how to use it now, however most of the time the update have improve things wonce you know how to deal with the changes.
Your vehicle and what we need from you:
Over the months of operating the system we have experienced problems on some vehicles where they are not on the system as presented or in some cases have been entered wrong last time.
When this happens it can be quite time consuming for us and requires information on your V5 logbook to enable us to do our job corectly.
So can you please supply your V5 registration document (LOG BOOK) and your last MOT certificate when you bring you car in.
What we do when we start your MOT since Computerisation.
We take your registration and chassis number and log on to the national MOT facility. After identifying your vehicle from the sometimes 1000 options a dedicated MOT check sheet is printed. Only now can we start your MOT.
What you can check to give a better chance of passing:
Please check:
All of your lights work including stop lamps.
Horn, washers and wipers work.
Windscreen wiper area is clear of stickers and not damaged.
All your seatbelts are out and not stuck under seats etc
Your Registration plates are corectly made eg not altered spacing and standard letters have been used.
The doors all work from inside and outside.
The boot area and inside is clear of items so we can do our job.
